Area Teams Claim District Titles

An exciting night of baseball and softball action ended with all six local teams advancing to the lower state playoffs this weekend.

In baseball action, Lake View fell 6-2 to Carvers Bay to force a second game for the District VI title. In the second game, the Gators earned a 9-1 win to secure a spot in the lower state playoffs. Carson Rogers pitched a complete game to earn the win on the mound in game two, and Luc Newell went 3-for-4 with four RBI at bat with Josh Price going 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and three runs scored.

Lake View will travel to face Johnsonville on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Johnsonville battled back from the elimination bracket to earn 3-2 and 10-2 wins over Branchville for the District V championship.

Latta claimed the District VIII title on Tuesday. The Vikings will be at East Clarendon on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. You can read more about the District VIII championship in today’s issue of THE DILLON HERALD!

In Class 2A, Dillon fell 6-5 to Aynor in eight innings on Wednesday night, but defeated the Blue Jackets 11-7 in game two to claim the District VIII title. Ethan Hayes earned the win on the mound in game two, and Jarvis Graves had a home run and four RBI.

Dillon will host Loris on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Loris defeated Waccamaw 6-0 in the District VII championship.

In softball action, Latta’s Lady Vikings shut out Branchville 10-0 in five innings with Anna Rogers getting the win on the mound. Dori Webster went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead the Vikings at bat, and Madison Owens went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Also in Class A, Lake View shut out Carver’s Bay 4-0 with Marissa Tyndall earning the win on the mound, pitching a one-hitter and striking out 15. Amber Locklear hit a two-run homer and had three RBI to lead the Lady Gators at bat.

Lake View will be at Latta on Friday at 6:00 p.m., while East Clarendon will host Johnsonville in the other lower state game.

In Class 2A, Dillon earned back-to-back wins over Aynor to claim the District VIII title. Dillon trailed 5-3 in the the first game but picked up four runs in the sixth inning and added two in the seventh for a 9-5 win. In game two, the Lady Wildcats run-ruled the Blue Jackets 11-1 for the win.

Dillon will host Waccamaw at 6:30 on Saturday, while Barnwell will host Silver Bluff in the other lower state bracket.
