Wildcats Open Season With Wins

The Dillon Wildcats opened the boys varsity basketball season with wins over Marlboro, South Robeson, and Lake View last week.

The Wildcats hosted Marlboro County on Tuesday, December 10, and battled their way to a 67-52 win in overtime.

The Bulldogs took an 11-10 lead over Dillon in the first quarter and outscored the Wildcats 17-13 in the second for a 28-23 lead at the half. But Dillon rallied in the third to outscore Marlboro 17-6 for a 40-34 lead. The Bulldogs fired back with an 18-12 fourth quarter to knot the game at 52, but the Wildcats dominated in overtime, pouring in 15 points for the win.

Dillon’s JaQuan Knowlin scored a game-high 22 points and Joe Manning added 12 in the win. Gabe Salmon earned nine points, Eri’Reon Hayes scored eight, and Julius Saunders added six. Sharif Myers and Tyreik McAllister each added four points, and Lawrence Crouch earned two.

Demetrius Knox led Marlboro with a team-high 12 points. Kijana Johnson earned 10; Fred Brown, 8; Cameron Johnson, 5; Andre Underwood, 5; Hallis Larkins, 3; Anlonte Littles, 3; London Johnson, 2; Jamie David, 2; and Tylik Johnson, 2.

On Wednesday, the Wildcats traveled to South Robeson High and defeated the Mustangs 85-64. Dillon took a 24-10 lead in the first quarter and outscored South Robeson 16-10 and 29-19 to lead 69-39 heading into the fourth. The Mustangs rallied to outscore Dillon 25-17 but couldn’t overcome the Wildcat lead.

Lawrence Crouch led Dillon with a team-high 19 points, Eri’Reon Hayes and Gabe Salmon each added 18, and Jaquan Knowlin scored 17 in the win. Joe Manning earned five points and Julius Saunders scored three, with Sharif Myers, Gerome McLeod, and Tyreik McAlister each adding two.

South Robeson was led by Reggie Scippio with a game-high 27 points. B. Worley added 10; Morrison, 4; McDuffie, 5; Stanley, 2; Leach, 4; Smith, 5; McCallum, 4; K. Worley, 1; and Miller, 2.

On Friday, the Wildcats were on the road in Lake View where they defeated the Wild Gators 86-29. Dillon led 57-21 at the half and outscored Lake View 17-4 and 12-4 in the final quarters for the win.

The Wildcats, 3-0, will be at Marlboro County tonight for the last regular season game before the winter break. Dillon’s teams will participate in the Robeson County Shootout beginning on Wednesday and will return to regular season action on Tuesday, January 7, in Latta.
