District Three Takes Part In Safe School Training

Dillon School District Three, as many other districts, are being proactive in providing as safe environment as possible for its students and staff.
Hence, the entire Dillon Three school family was open to the recent active shooter and intruder training presented by SLED Agent Wayne Freeman.  Local School Resource Officers (SROs) from Latta and Lake View were in attendance.  In addition, two local Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents, a regional director of South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), Latta Police Chief, a Latta Police Officer, and Dillon County Disaster Preparedness Agent were all in attendance.
The goal of the training session was to provide the educators with up-to-date and critical information related to active school shooters and intruders.  It is unfortunate that the United States is the leading country with 237 active shooter incidents on record.
Canada ranks number two with 8 incidents.
The information at the training session included such things as safety directives in the classroom, a safe student and staff exit strategy, and necessary safety staff.
Principals and school safety teams are in the process of updating their school’s safety plans.  The recent training will assist them in making sure that they are not caught off guard with the unexpected.
It is very common for fire, tornado, and even earthquake drills to be practiced in the schools.  However, it is not as common for active shooter and intruder drills to be carried out. With the knowledge acquired via this training, the safety teams will now be able to be even more prepared.  Safety first!
Dillon School District Three would like to give many thanks to each of the Law Enforcement Agencies who attended the event.
