Wildcats Fall in Round 3 of Volleyball Playoffs

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats swept Timberland in the second round of the Class AA Lower State volleyball playoffs but fell 3-2 to Waccamaw on Monday.

After sweeping Andrews at home in round one, the Wildcats were on the road on Wednesday, October 30, to take on Timberland in round two. The Lady Wolves pushed the Wildcats to a 27-25 score in the first set, but Dillon dominated the second and third with scores of 25-13 and 25-17.

Da’Kerhia Samuel led Dillon with 16 kills, five digs, and two assists; Rebecca Callahan made 19 assissts, 13 digs, one aces and one kill; and Shayna Covington made 11 digs and one kill for the Wildcats. Leah McMillan made nine digs and two kills; Desiree’ McLain made five kills and three digs; Holly Vaughn made five kills, three digs, and three assists; Breana Park made four kills and one dig; and Johnna Rogers made one dig for Dillon.

McMillan scored 26 service points for the Wildcats, and Callahan added six. Samuel scored five, Covintgon earned three, and Rogers and Vaughn each added two.

On Monday night, Dillon traveled to Waccamaw and fell 3-2 to the Lady Warriors. Dillon claimed the first two sets with scroes of 27-25 and 25-20, but the Warriors dominated the rest of the game with scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 15-8.

Waccamaw advanced to the Class 2A lower state championship, where they were scheduled to travel to face Bishop England on Wednesday. The Class 2A state championship game will be held this Saturday, November 9, at 1:00 p.m. at White Knoll High School.
