Latta, Lake View Fall in Volleyball Playoffs

Both Latta and Lake View were eliminated in the second round of the Class A Lower State volleyball playoffs on Wednesday, October 30.

The Lady Vikings were swept by Branchville with scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-12.

The Lady Gators fell 3-1 to Charleston Charter with scores of 25-20, 26-24, 22-25, and 25-20.

Branchville went on to sweep Charleston Charter 3-0 on Monday night with scores of 25-11, 25-12, and 25-12.

In the other lower state brackets, East Clarendon eliminated Allendale-Fairfax and Johnsonville swept Whale Branch 25-13, 25-7, and 25-9. On Monday, the Lady Flashes swept East Clarendon with scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 25-11.

Branchville was scheduled to host Johnsonville for the lower state title on Wednesday night.

In the upper state, Dixie swept St. Joseph’s to advance to the upper state championship game and Southside Christian went 3-2 over Brashier Middle to advance.

In Class 2A, Academic Magnet knocked off Silver Bluff in round two and Bishop England swept Edisto. The Battling Bishops in turn eliminated Academic Magnet to advance to the lower state championship.

Dillon swept Timberland on Wednesday night and Waccamaw swept Aynor, but Dillon fell 3-2 to the Warriors on Monday. Bishop England was scheduled to host Waccamaw for the lower state championship on Wednesday night.

In the upper state, Ninety-Six went 3-2 over Crescent and Andrew Jackson defeated North Central 3-1 to advance to the upper state championship.

In Class 3A, Pickens will host Chapin for the upper state title, and North Myrtle Beach will host Airport in the lower state. Class 4A will feature Hillcrest at Dorman in the upper state, and Aiken at Wando in the lower state.

All four state championship games will be played at White Knoll High School this Saturday, November 9, beginning with the Class A championship at 11:00 a.m.
