Daniel Murray Church (Dan), 92, died on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at his home in Dillon after an illness. He was born in Dillon County on April 5, 1921, the son of Bertie Bryant Church and Daniel Murray Church, Sr.
He was a member of East Dillon Baptist Church and a retired tree surgeon. Mr. Dan was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in January 1946.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Faye Church of Dillon; granddaughter, Kelly McDowell of Goose Creek; sisters, Marguerite Church Altman, Aiken; Coleen Hayes Lawler, Newcomerstown, Ohio; Valdean Hayes, Lake View; Helen Hayes Holliday, Anderson; brothers: Lanneau Hayes, Lake View; Carlton William Hayes, Florence; nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Susanne Grimsley Church; his daughter, Brenda Sue McDowell; sisters: Annie Bell Church Hayes, Lucille Church Thompson, Kate Church Elvington, infant Letha Bertie Church; brothers: James Church; Robert Church.
Services were held Monday, October 21, at East Dillon Baptist Church, 1:00 p.m. directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation tookplace one hour before the service at the church. Burial was in Celestial Memorial Gardens, West Columbia.
