What a day to remember! Kemper Baptist Church (KBC) honored the “First Responders” of Dillon County with a special service Sunday September 8, 2013.
The service began at 10:30am with the arrival of the McLeod Air Reach helicopter which is stationed at Marion, SC.  The McLeod Air Reach crew joined us as we opened our service with a DVD which paid tribute to our “First Responders” and their families. Our guest singers “Eighth Day” began our service with a couple of wonderful uplifting gospel songs that continued to pay tribute to our “First Responders”.
Special guest 1st Lt. Tyrone Gerald from New York City shared his role during the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers.  His testimony was very moving. He shared the events of that day as they unfolded in his life.  He shared about losing one of his closest friends in this attack and how it still affects him today.  We were privileged to have such a brave man in our midst on this special day.
Immediately following the morning worship service a meal was provided in the church fellowship hall.  The Kemper Baptist Church family shared a meal with over 200 in attendance enjoying some good ole Henry Brunson chicken bog with all the trimmings. The KBC Brotherhood ran their “Gospel Train” with Engineer Joe Ward and Conductor Tommy Ray Berry at the controls. The children had a wonderful time riding the train and quality fellowship was enjoyed by everyone. The McLeod Air Reach helicopter crew offered tours of their flying machine to everyone who was interested in seeing how they serve as “First Responders”. It was such a “great honor” for KBC to recognize the contribution that our local “First Responders” make to our community.  Please join us during this entire week of Remembering 9/11.  When you meet one of these special people during this week, please say thank you to these “First Responders” for their service to us the citizens of Dillon County.  We must “Never Forget” the role that they play in our lives every day.  What a day to remember!
