Dillon’s Coach Tony Washington was named the Girls 2A Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Dillon’s Coach Tony Washington was recently awarded one of the highest honors that a coach can receive in the state of South Carolina when he was received the South Carolina Girls 2A Track & Field Coach of the Year at the South Carolina High School League’s Athletic Banquet in Columbia, SC.

Coach Washington received the award for his class in recognition of his overall coaching record, professional honors, and contributions to the sport. He was also selected as Coach of the Year last year by the High School Sports Report and the SCHSL.

Coach Tony Washington Sr. became the Dillon High track coach in 2010 and the team took off from there. He began to work with the team, reminding them that hard work pays off and to always finish what they started. His sister had a saying, “In it to win it,” and he took that saying to the track team as well. Washington really enjoys what he does along with his coaching staff of Coach Gunter and Coach St. Randy Gray.

Since Washington took the reigns as head track coach, the championships have been coming in. In 2011, the team brought home the Region Championship and the Lower State title. In 2012, they brought home the Lower State and State Championship and this year the girls brought home the 4×100 Relay State Championship.

Coach Washington says he is very proud of the Dillon High track team for all their hard work and for never giving up.

Coach Washington is also the founding pastor of E-Manuel Temple Outreach Center in Dillon, along with his wife, Samechia Nikki Washington.
