Lady Wildcats Shut Out Competition in Class 2A Playoffs

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats swept the first two rounds of the District VIII bracket with a 16-0 win over Lake Marion and a 9-0 win over Aynor in the Class 2A state softball playoffs.

On Thursday, Dillon hosted Lake Marion and shut out the Gators 16-0 in three innings. The Wildcats scored five runs in the first, four in the second, and seven in the third for the win.

Shaquailla German pitched all three innings, striking out nine and denying the Gators a single hit. Marguayla Parson took the loss, pitching 2.6 innings for 18 hits, 16 runs, 14 earned runs, and two walks.

Erin Bailey went 3-for-3 at bat for the Lady Wildcats with two doubles and three RBIs and Shaquailla German went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Also at bat for Dillon, Tara Grimsley went 2-for-2 with a double; Shayna Covington went 2-for-2 with a double; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a RBI; and Taylor Price went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI.

On Saturday, Dillon hosted Aynor for a 9-0 shut out, with Dillon scoring one run each in the first and second to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Wildcats added three runs in the bottom of the fourth and four in the fifth to seal the win.

Darby Hamer got the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing just three hits with one walk while striking out three. Shelby Culler took the loss for Aynor.

Shaquailla German led at bat, going 3-for-4 with three triples and four RBIs for the Wildcats. Shayna Covington went 3-for-5 with three runs scored; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Taylor Price went 1-for-2 with a two RBIs. The Wildcats had 11 hits in the win, while Aynor had just three.

Dillon improved to 22-3 overall as they advanced to the district title game on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The Wildcats will face the winner of Monday’s game between Timberland and Aynor.

BASEBALL

The Dillon Wildcats took a 12-2 win over Lake City on Thursday and a 12-4 win over Waccamaw on Saturday to advance to the District VIII title game on Wednesday night.

In Thursday’s game against Lake City, the Wildcats had a host of home runs as Patrick Herring, Kyle Britt, and Duncan Callahan each hit two-run homers and Ethan Hayes added a solo home run. Herring also hit a double with four RBIs, while Britt picked up three RBIs.

Weston Bailey got the win on the mound, striking out six in three innings.

On Saturday, Dillon defeated Waccamaw 12-4 to advance to the district championship. Dillon will host the winner of Monday’s game between Waccamaw and Lake City.
