Wildcats Earn Wins Over Loris Lions

Both the Dillon Wildcats baseball and softball teams earned wins over the Loris Lions on Friday night in Loris.

In baseball action, the Wildcats edged Loris 1-0 with the winning run in the top of the fifth inning.

Duncan Callahan picked up the win, pitching a complete game for five hits and 10 outs. Guy Caines took the loss for Loris, pitching six innings for five hits, one earned run, three walks, and six outs, and Tanner Cox pitched one inning for the Lions with one out.

Omar McCollum went 2-for-4 at bat for the Wildcats and Weston Bailey went 1-for-5 with a RBI. The Wildcats had five hits in the win.

Stacey Dozier led Loris at bat, going 2-for-2. Tanner Cox went 1-for-4, and Austin Hord, Whit Rivenbark, and Tanner Chock each went 1-for-3 for the Lions.

Dillon is now 2-0 in Region 8-2A baseball. with a 3-1 record in the regular season. The latest baseball coaches poll had the Wildcats tied with Chesterfield for second place in the state in Class 2A.

In softball action, the Lady Wildcats defeated Loris 15-1 in five innings on Friday night as Dillon started the game with three runs in the first inning and two in the second for a 5-0 lead.

Wildcat pitcher Shaquailla German allowed just one run to get by her in the bottom of the second inning to leave Loris trailing 5-1, but Dillon responded with six runs in the top of the third and capped the win with four more in the fifth.

German pitched all five innings for 13 outs, seven walks, and just one run. Alex Faircloth took the loss, pitching five innings for 14 hits, 15 runs, 11 earned runs, one walk, and one out.

Shayna Covington went 4-for-4 with two doubles; German went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs; and MaKayla Drake went 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI to lead Dillon at bat. The wildcats had a total of 14 hits and one error in the win. Loris had no hits and four errors.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-2A. Dillon’s Lady Cats topped the list in the most recent Class 2A state softball poll.

On Tuesday, both Wildcat teams were scheduled to host Waccamaw at 6:30 p.m. and on Friday, Dillon will host Aynor. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
