Trojans Fall to 62-11 Viking Raid

Latta’s Lady Vikings dominated Friday night’s home game against Green Sea-Floyds with a 62-11 win over the Lady Trojans.

Latta took an 18-0 lead in the first quarter and outscored Green Sea 13-4 and 17-2 in the second and third. The Lady Trojans went 5-4 in the low scoring fourth quarter.

Latta’s Tianna Deberry led all scorers with 16 points and Jessica Evans and TaKeria Legette each added 14 in the win. Brittany Burgess scored 12 and Kierra Johnson added four,with Maya Wright and Madelia Johnson each adding one point.

Deberry sank one three-pointer and went three-for-three on free throws, and Evans sank six of 14 free throw attempts. Wright and Madelia Johnson each sank one of two free throw attempts.

Wright led the team in rebounds with four offensive and five defensive for a total of nine. Legette grabbed seven rebounds and Burgess and Kierra Johnson each picked up five. Deberry picked up three rebounds and Evans and Madelia Johnson each snagged one.

Burgess made a team-high 10 assists, with Deberry making five and Evans making three. Legette and Wright made two assists each and Kierra Johnson made one. Burgess, Deberry, and Evans each made three steals and Wright had one. Burgess and Legette also made one block each.

Quadasia Gillard scored four points to lead the Trojans. Keanna Gerald added three and Asia Floyd and Qenesenya Jackson each scored two.

Latta’s overall record improves to 9-1 as they remain undefeated at 2-0 in Region 8A.

Tonight, the Lady Vikings will travel to Hannah-Pamplico to face the Red Raiders. On Wednesday, Latta will be back home to host Dillon in the first of three home games, with Lake View traveling to Latta on Friday and Johnsonville visiting on Tuesday, January 22.
