Lady Vikings Take Down Top-Ranked Auctioneers 49-46

Latta’s Lady Vikings took down the top-ranked Mullins Auctioneers in a 49-46 showdown on Tuesday night in Latta.

The Lady Auctioneers, the top-ranked Class AA girls basketball team in the state, took a narrow 10-9 lead in the first quarter and outscored Latta 15-7 in the second for a 35-16 lead at the half. But the Lady Vikings stormed the court in the third to outscore Mullins 22-7 and carry a 38-32 lead into the fourth, where Mullins outscored Latta 14-11, leaving the Auctioneers just short as Latta claimed the 49-46 win.

Tianna DeBerry led Latta with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, with Jessica Evans adding 12 points and Maya Wright earning 11. Brittany Burgess added six points and TaKeria Legette added four for the Vikings.

Mullins was led by Brittani McDonald with a team-high 16 points. Zaakariah Williams added nine; Jaleah Lesane, 7; Brianna Brantley, 4; and Casey Phillips, Jaqueisha Wright, and Precious White each added two.

The Latta girls improved to 3-0 with the win as they prepare to travel to Mullins to take on the Lady Auctioneers once again on Friday, December 14.
