Lady Warriors Earn 56-12 Win Over New Prospect, Fall to Bobcats 44-24

Dillon Christian School’s Warriors earned a 56-12 win over New Prospect Christian but fell 44-24 to Carolina Academy on Tuesday in girls basketball action.

The Lady Warriors split a pre-season tournament with a 62-24 loss to Village Christian and a 36-16 win over Neuse Christian. But they started the regular season with a 42-25 loss to Low Country Prep and a 34-15 loss to Florence Christian.

On Thursday, November 29, the Lady Warriors scored their first regular season win as they defeated New Prospect Christian 56-12. DCS jumped out to a 19-3 lead in the first and widened it 10-5 in the second before outscoring New Prospect 27-4 in the second half.

Lauren Lee led with a team-high 28 points including 7 of 9 free throw attempts and a three-pointer. Kylee Sullivan added 11 points and hit five of six free throws, and Sarah Fitzgibbon scored eight points. Kathyrn Brown earned five points and hit one free throw, and Alex Lane scored four points.

Brown led the team in rebounds with 10 total, and Sullivan grabbed seven with Lane picking up six. Caroline Shelley grabbed five rebounds, while Lee and Makalai Sweat each grabbed four. Emilie Martin, Fitzgibbon, and Greta Seay picked up one rebound each.

Lee, Brown, and Fitzgibbon all made a block, and Sweat led the team with four steals with Lee, Brown, Sullivan, and Martin making one steal each. Lee, Brown, Sullivan, Lane, and Shelley also each made an assist.

But on Tuesday, December 4, the Lady Warriors fell 44-24 to the Carolina Academy Bobcats. Carolina outscored DCS 19-1 in the first period and 15-9 in the second to take a strong lead. The Lady Warriors rallied to outscore the Lady Bobcats 11-7 in the third, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, and both teams added just three points in the final period.

Tori Gaskins led Carolina with a game-high 21 points, with Heidi Matthews adding nine, Ally Gaskins scoring eight, and Haven Brown and Kylie Ford each scored three.

Lauren Lee led Dillon Christian with a team-high 15 points. Kathryn Brown scored four, Alex Lane earned three, and Kylee Sullivan earned two.

The Lady Warriors are now 2-3 overall this season and 0-1 in SCISA Region 2A.

Meanwhile, the Dillon Christian boys fell 64-36 to Florence Christian on Tuesday, November 20, but defeated New Prospect Christian 80-52 on Thursday.

The Warriors took a 19-8 lead over New Prospect in the first period and outscored them 20-12 in the second. Both teams added 20 points in the third, but the Warriors outscored New Prospect 21-12 in the fourth to seal the win.

Both the boys and girls teams are scheduled to host the Williamsburg Academy Stallions this Friday, December 7, and The King’s Academy on Tuesday, December 11. Basketball action begins at 4:00 p.m. with the junior varsity girls. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
