Dillon ATEC Student Wins ARC Welder

Twenty-six students representing the Dillon County Technology Center’s Welding Program had the opportunity to be selected by their fellow classmates and instructor, Jerry Bullard to win a welding machine of their choice.
The contest was announced at the beginning of the school year. Students were informed that a class member from either level or either semester would be considered. The ranking would be inclusive of daily attendance, both test and performance evaluations and work ethic.
This idea was initiated to help enhance our students’ desire to become more deeply involved in the certification process and to promote an understanding of earning a fair salary for fair workmanship practices. The concept also helps students recognize the higher degrees of discipline needed to obtain a craftsman’s status and to become gainfully employed.
The contestant selected was voted “Survivor-Style” and the results were revealed Monday, May 21, 2012 following the final exam.
The winner, Dustin Hinson, from Dillon High School has shown above average respect for all the prerequisites to become a certified welder. He has constantly displayed exemplary behavior in the quest for gaining and applying knowledge. One of Dustin’s best attributes is that of workshop housekeeping and organizational duties.
Dustin is currently in the enrollment process at Florence-Darlington Technical College and plans to further his training in welding this fall.
Dustin is the son of Mr. Eric Monroe and Debbie L. Hinson of Dillon.
