Dillon Edges Aynor, Downs Loris

The Dillon Wildcats edged Aynor 10-9 on Tuesday and downed Loris 6-1 on Friday in varsity baseball action.

In Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jackets, Daniel Huggins started on the mound and pitched three and two-thirds innings for six outs, eight hits, six runs, and one hit-by-pitch.

Kwinton Smith came in to pick up the win, pitching two and one-thirds innings with two outs, five hits, one hit-by-pitch, three runs, and three walks. Jamie Callahan pitched the seventh inning for the save, getting two outs and two walks.

At bat, Kyle Britt went 2-for-5 with a home run; Smith went 4-for-5; Huggins went 2-for-4; and Weston Bailey went 2-for-3 with two walks.

In Friday’s game with Loris, the Wildcats picked up a 6-1 win at home with Callahan hitting a home run and striking out 11 in the win.

Callahan pitched six innings for 11 outs, two hits, and one run. At bat, he went 2-for-2 with the home run and one RBI.

Daniel Huggins went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Wildcats.

Dillon is now 8-2 overall and undefeated at 6-0 in Region 8-2A. Loris slips to 6-5 and 3-3 in the region. The latest South Carolina Coaches poll ranked the Wildcats in sixth place in Class AA baseball.

Smith leads the team in hits with 22 so far this season and an average of .595. Britt and Callahan each have 16 hits to their credit, with Britt’s average at .500 and Callahan’s at .485. Smith leads Dillon in home runs with four, while Britt and Callahan each have three. Smith and Callahan also each have 17 runs scored. Callahan leads the team in RBIs with 16, and Huggins has brought in 11. Huggins and Bailey each have 15 hits, and Huggins has a .455 average. Bailey has scored 14 runs and has a .441 batting average.

On the mound, Callahan has four pitching wins and Huggins has three. In 27 innings pitched, Callahan has an ERA of 0.51 and has struck out 54.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to South Florence this Wednesday, April 4, for a 6:30 matchup. On Tuesday, April 10, Dillon will be back at home to host Lake View for a double header beginning at 5:00 p.m. Make plans to attend!
