Lady Vikings Take Down Johnsonville 9-1

Latta’s Lady Vikings took down region rival Johnsonville 9-1 at home in Latta on Thursday.

Latta scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead and improved to 6-0 with two more runs in the second. The Lady Flashes scored their only run in the top of the third, while Latta added three runs in the fifth to seal the win. The Vikings had 12 hits and one error, while Johnsonville had four hits and three errors in the game.

Latta’s Anna Rogers picked up the win, pitching all seven innings and allowing only four hits, one run, one earned run, and three walks. She struck out 13. Johnsonville’s A. Hanna took the loss for the Flashes, pitching six innings and allowing 12 hits, nine runs, eight earned runs, and four walks, striking out three.

Dallas Sweat led Latta at bat, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored, and Dori Webster went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Allison Moody went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored; Mikenzi Caniglia went 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored; Raven Baxley went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored; Macy Hyatt went 2-for-4 with an RBI; Cora Owens went 1-for-4 with one run scored; Tori Grimsley went 1-for-4; and Chelsea Welty went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

For Johnsonville, A. Prosser went 2-for-3 with one run scored, M. Poston went 1-for-3, and K. Ard went 1-for-1.

Latta improves to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in Region 8A. The Lady Vikings are second in the region, with the undefeated Green Sea-Floyds Trojans in first with a 5-0 record in Region 8A. Johnsonville is currently third with a 6-5 overall record and 3-3 in the region. Lake View is fourth with a 4-8 overall and 1-4 record in the region.

Chelsea Welty currently leads the Vikings in the season stats to date. Welty has 18 hits and a .562 average so far, and has scored 16 runs for the Vikings, hitting four doubles and five home runs with 14 RBIs.

Macy Hyatt has scored 11 runs, and Dallas Sweat has hit two triples so far this season with 11 RBI. Dori Webster has 13 hits and a .433 average and Tori Grimsley has 11 hits and a .423 average.

Grimsley has also pitched 27 and two-thirds innings for 23 outs. Anna Rogers has five pitching wins, going 33 and one-third innings with 48 outs.

The Lady Vikings are taking the week off for spring break but will be back in action at Green Sea-Floyds on Tuesday, April 10. Latta will be back at home on Wednesday to host Lamar at 6:15 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our team!
