Lady Vikings Extend Streak with Two Wins

Latta’s Lady Vikings extended their win streak to eight with two more wins, defeating Creek Bridge 71-23 and Hemingway 47-42.

The Vikings ended the week on Friday by defeating the Warriors 71-23 at home in Latta. The Vikings outscored Creek Bridge in every period, going 20-6 and 14-5 to lead 34-11 at the half, and 20-4 and 17-8 to finish up the game.

Tianna Deberry scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Vikings, with Jessica Evans adding 15, Brittany Burgess earning 12, and Ta’Keria Legette scoring 10. Jocelyn Vereen scored four points for Latta, Kierra Johnson sank one, and Silesia Braddy, Maya Wright, Astayja Lemon, and Michia Johnson each scored two.

Dekira Hemingway earned a team-high 14 points for Creek Bridge. Brazia Crawford scored three, and Antyce Brown, Jonae Evans, and Miesha Abrams each scored two.

On Tuesday, Latta again played host, defeating the Hemingway Tigers 47-42.

The Tigers got off to an early 13-5 lead by the end of the first, but Latta outscored the Lady Tigers 15-8 in the second to cut Hemingway’s lead to just one point as they entered half-time 21-20. The Lady Vikings took a one-point lead by the end of the third as they outscored Hemingway 14-12, and Latta went 13-9 in the fourth to hang on to the lead and earn the win.

Jessica Evans led the Lady Vikings with a team-high 13 points and Tianna Deberry added 10 in the win. Brittany Burgess scored eight, Kierra Johnson earned three, and Ka’Keria Legette and Maya Wright each added six points for Latta.

Keondra Snow scored a game-high 19 points for Hemingway. Jashannah Wilson added eight, Diamond McFadden earned five, Shanta Blow scored four, and Kaniya Burgess, Diamond Scott, and Tanisha Woodberry each added two points.

Latta’s record improves to 8-5 overall and 7-1 in Region 8A. Hemingway is also 7-1 in the Region. Creek Bridge is now 3-7 in the region and 5-12 overall.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled to take on Dillon’s Lady Wildcats on Wednesday and will be in action again on Tuesday at Carver’s Bay.
