Vikings Fall in Second Meeting with Swamp Foxes

Both Vikings basketball teams took losses from Marion on Tuesday in their second non-region game of the season, with the Vikings falling 77-66 and the Lady Vikings falling 65-52.

Marion was led by Marqui McKelvy, who scored a game high 26 points, and Kevin Rowell, who added 22 points in the win. D.J. Kelly scored 11, with Michael Outlaw and D Emmanuel earning six points each, and Chris Washington and Travis Wiggins earning four points each.

Latta was led by Rajit McFadden with a team-high 25 points and Donell Stanley with 19. D.J. Legette added 13 points, Tyrell Saab earned six, and Travise Kinney scored three.

The Vikings are now 0-3 for the season, while Marion’s boys improve to 3-0.

The Lady Vikings were outscored in the first three periods, falling behind 21-16 in the first and trailing 36-22 at the half. Latta rallied in the fourth to add 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. Marion finished on top, 65-52.

Krystal Washington led Marion with a team-high 26 points, with Shatoria Dunkins and Tyshanna Lester each adding 12. Jamiesha Foxworth scored six, Jasmine Gause earned five, and KeyEssence Foxworth posted four.

Tianna Deberry led Latta with a game-high 29 points. Jessica Evans added 15 points, with Silesia Braddy scoring four, Maya Wright earning three, and Brittany Burgess adding one.

The Lady Vikings are also 0-3 this season, while the Lady Swamp Foxes are now 3-0.

Latta will host Mullins this Friday for the second meeting of the teams this season. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Latta Gym, starting with girls basketball action. Make plans to attend to support our teams!
