Callahan Pitches in All-American Game

Dillon’s Jamie Callahan participated in the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game over the weekend, with Callahan’s team, American, falling 6-4 to the Nationals after a rain delay during the eighth inning.

According to a scouting report, Callahan played in the eighth inning and threw his fastball 86–89 mph. He aggressively went after hitters with his fastball and stayed balanced despite the wet conditions. He also threw a tight slider at 77 mph and an 11-5 curve at 71.

The game was played at Chicago’s Wrigley field, with the American team coached by former Major League player and manager Larry Bowa. The team also included Ryan Ripken, son of Hall of Famer Cal Ripken.

Saturday’s game capped off four-days of festivities, including attending a a Cubs game, a formal workout for Major League Baseball scouts, and a homerun derby. The event showcases rising baseball talent, and over the past two years, 61 of the 72 participating players were selected in the MLB Amateur Draft.

Callahan was named all-state earlier this year, playing at first base and hitting .450 with seven homers. He spent the summer playing AAU baseball for the Carolina Shockwave and the Hurricanes. He is currently committed to play baseball for the University of South Carolina after graduating from Dillon High School in 2012.
