Lady Vikings Defeat Lamar 14-2

Latta’s Lady Vikings added one more check in the win column on Monday night with a non-conference 14-2 win over Lamar’s Silver Foxes.

Latta got off to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and improved to 5-0 in the third. The Lady Vikings added one more run in the fifth before an eight run streak in the sixth to finish at 14-2. Lamar scored their only two runs in the third.

Anna Rogers was the winning pitcher for Latta, pitching all six innings and allowing only seven hits, two runs, an earned run, and two walks. She struck out six. The losing pitcher was Ashley Daughty.

Latta’s leading hitters were Chelsea Welty, 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBIs; Allison Moody, 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs; Dallas Sweat, 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs; and Anna Benton Love, 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and three RBIs.

Also for Latta, Paige Lovett went 1-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored; Andrea Gilbert, 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored; Raven Baxley, 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and one run scored; Taylor Cox, 1-for-1 with an RBI and one run scored; Charise Braddy, 1-for-4 with one run scored; and Mikenzi Caniglia, 1-for-3.

Latta’s regular season record improves to 12-2, while their region record remains 7-1, putting them in second place in Region 8-A.

In the latest statewide coaches poll, Latta rose from sixth place to fifth overall in Class A softball. Abbeville took the top spot, while Lake View slid to second for the first time all season. McBee was third and Landrum was in fourth.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled to head to Johnsonville Thursday and will travel to Lake View for a rematch on Tuesday, April 19. Latta previously defeated Johnsonville this season, but Lake View dealt the Vikings their only region loss to date. Make plans to come out and support our local teams!
