German Leads Wildcats to 4-3 Win Over Aynor, 6-1 Win Over Waccamaw

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats added two more wins this week with a 4-3 victory over Aynor and a 6-1 win over Waccamaw.

The Lady Cats hosted Aynor on Friday, March 25, and came away with a 4-3 win with a walk-off home run by eighth-grader Shaquailla German.

Aynor lead most of the game, getting a run in the first and adding two more in the third to put them up 3-0. Dillon managed one run in the third, but the next three innings were scoreless for both teams. German hit a home run in the seventh to bring in three runs for Dillon for the 4-3 win.

On the mound, German pitched seven innings and struck out 11. She walked four and gave up only two hits with one earned run.

The Wildcats lead hitters were German, 2-for-4 one home run, one run scored, and three RBIs; Shayna Covington, 2-for-4 with one run scored, a triple, and an RBI; Tara Grimsley, 1-for-4 with one run scored; and Dallas Rowell, 1-for-3.

The losing pitcher was Sydney Howell, pitching six and two-thirds innings and striking out seven.

On Tuesday, March 29, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Waccamaw to down the Warriors 6-1.

Dillon scored first with a run in the first inning, and added two more in the third to lead 3-0. Waccamaw got their single run third, but both teams held each other off for the next three innings. Dillon would add three more runs in the seventh inning to secure the 6-1 win.

Shaquailla German threw a one-hitter across seven innings. German allowed only one run with 10 walks, striking out thirteen.

Tara Grimsley was the lead hitter for Dillon, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Rebecca Callahan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Darby Hamer and Taylor Price each went 2-for-4 with an RBI, with Hamer hitting a double and Price stealing a base. Shaquailla German was 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI. Shayna Covington was 0-for-3 but got to base on a walk, stole a base, and scored one run for the Wildcats. Chelsey Wallace, Katie Church, and Dallas Rowell each went 1-for-3.

The losing pitcher was Waccamaw’s Melaina Moore, who pitched seven innings with 11 hits, six runs, five earned runs, and three walks. She struck out only one Wildcat.

Dillon’s record improves to 13-5 overall and 5-0 in Region 8-2A to lead the region.

So far this season, German has pitched 43 innings with 70 strike outs, facing 177 batters and allowing only 13 hits and one home run. She has been the winning pitcher for seven games, losing only two.

Darby Hamer has pitched 35 innings, facing 163 batters and allowing 26 hits, striking out 37. Hamer has been winning pitcher four times, losing three. Taylor Price has pitched 15 innings for the Wildcats, facing 80 batters with 19 hits, striking out 20. Price was winning pitcher twice.

At bat, German leads with five home runs, hitting 18 out of 46 at bats and scoring 17 runs. German has 20 RBIs. Hamer is 17-for-47 with 13 runs scored and 10 RBIs, and Price is 16-for-51 with 10 runs scored and 11 RBIs.

Shayna Covington has gone 23-for-52 and scored 24 runs for Dillon, stealing 17 bases so far this season with seven RBIs. Tara Grimsley is 24-for-53 with 17 runs so far, and Rebecca Callahan is 22-for-56 with 17 runs scored. Grimsley and Callahan each have 18 RBIs, and Callahan has two triples.

Callahan, Hamer, and Dallas Rowell also each have one home run so far this season. Hamer and Grimsley have also each hit seven doubles, and Price has five.

The Lady Wildcats will be back at home to host Loris on Friday, April 1 and Mullins on Tuesday, April 5. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
