Latta’s Lady Vikings swept both games of a double header against the Hemingway Tigers on Tuesday, March 22.
In game one, the Lady Vikings won 18-0 over the Lady Tigers. Latta scored seven runs in the first inning to give them an early lead, adding 10 in the second and in the third. Pitcher Anna Rogers kept Hemingway off the scoreboard, giving up only one hit across three innings and striking out six Tigers.
Latta’s lead batters were Charise Braddy, 2-for-3; Allison Moody, 1-for-1; Dallas Sweat, 1-for-1; Kaitlyn Lewis, 1-for-1; Chelsea Welty, 1-for-1; Anna Benton Love, 1-for-3; Paige Lovett, 1-for-2; and Anna Rogers 1-for-2.
In game two, Latta again dominated with a final score of 13-0. The Lady Vikings scored seven runs in the first and six runs in the second to claim the game. Winning pitcher Morgan Mason struck out seven batters across three innings, helping keep Hemingway scoreless for a second time.
Lead hitters in game two were Andrea Gilbert, 2-for-2 with a triple, and Morgan Mason, 1-for-2.
The Lady Vikings improve to 8-1 in the regular season and 4-0 in Region 8-A.
Next up, Latta will play host to the Lake View Lady Wild Gators on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Gators are perhaps Latta’s biggest rival, both in county and in region, with both teams currently undefeated in the region. Lake View had a 6-0 regular season record heading into Wednesday’s non-region game against Dillon.
