Wildcats Earn Wins, Loss

The Dillon Wildcats are 2-1 so far in the regular season with wins over Fairmont and Loris, and a loss to Fairmont in their second encounter.

The Wildcats played at Fairmont on Monday, March 7, to open the regular season and bring home a 3-0 win. They hosted Fairmont later in the week, but lost at home with a score of 15-5.

In the home game, Fairmont scored two runs in the first inning, with Dillon earning one in the second. Dillon added two more in the third to Fairmont’s three, and added another two in the fourth. But 10 runs in the fourth put the the Golden Tornadoes firmly in the lead for the 15-5 win after five innings.

Alex Riddle was the winning pitcher for Fairmont, going three innings and facing 17 batters, giving up six hits, five runs, and one earned run. He struck out three and walked two. Alex Britt also pitched two innings for Fairmont, facing eight batters and giving up no hits, striking out three, and walking two.

Fairmont’s batters included William Brit, 2-for-3 with four runs scored and one RBI; Johnathan Callahan, 3-for-4 with one run scored and 4 RBIs; Josh Ammons 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI; Cain Wilkerson, 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs; Kyle Britt, 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs; Zack Pittman, 1-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs; Alex Britt, 2-for-4 with one run scored; and Tyreke Addison 1-for-3 with one run scored.

On Tuesday, the Wildcats traveled to Loris for their first region matchup, and after eight innings, they came away with a 4-0 win over the Lions.

Jamie Callahan was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and allowing only four hits and three walks, striking out 11. Kwinton Smith got the save with one inning, striking out one.

Smith was the lead hitter, going 4-for-4 with a double. Kyle Britt went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Daniel Huggins went 1-for-1.

Dillon’s record improves to 2-1 in the regular season and 1-0 in Region 8-2A.

On Wednesday, Dillon was scheduled to host South Florence, and tonight they play in Mullins at 6:30 p.m.
