Lake View Girls Defeat Rival Johnsonville 5-2

The rivalry between Lake View and Johnsonville continued on Tuesday as the Lady Wild Gators went 5-2 over the Lady Flashes at home in Lake View.

Lake View got thing started with a run in the first and in the third to put them up 2-0. Johnsonville finally managed to get their two runs in the fifth, but Lake View also added two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to retain the lead.

Lake View’s Avonlea Cooke pitched the complete game, giving up five hits, two runs, one earned run, and a walk. She struck out six players at bat. Losing pitcher Ashley Hanna pitched in six innings and allowed eight hits, five runs, four earned runs, and a walk, striking out one Lady Gator.

Lake View’s leading hitters included Morgan Wethington, 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs; Kayla Sanderson, 2-for-2 with two RBIs; Chelsea Spivey, 1-for-3 with a double and a run; and Brittany Floyd with two RBIs.

Johnsonville’s lead hitters were Marley Young, 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored; and Rachel Cribb, 1-for-3.

Lake View’s record improves to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 8A, while Johnsonville’s falls to 1-2 with a 1-1 region record.

The Lady Wild Gators are next set to host Carvers Bay on Friday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m.
