Wright Leads Bulldogs to 7-3 Win Over ’Cats

Marlboro County’s Kayla Wright led the Bulldogs to a 7-3 victory over the Lady Wildcats on Monday night in Bennettsville.

Wright gave up only seven hits, one walk, and three runs, with no earned runs. She struck out seven Wildcats across seven innings.

Wright was also Marlboro County’s leading hitter, getting a three-run home run for the Bulldogs. She finished two for three with four RBIs. Taylor Cheek went 1-2 for the Bulldogs.

Dillon’s Darby Hamer was the losing pitcher, with the Bulldogs scoring five runs in the first three innings she pitched. Hamer pitched a total of four innings nd gave up three earned runs, five hits, and three walks. She didn’t strike out a single Bulldog.

Dillon’s lead hitters were Shayna Covington, two for four; and Chelsey Wallace, two for three.

The Wildcats fall to 0-1 in the regular season and 3-3 overall. Marlboro County is now 1-0 in the regular season.

Next up for the Lady Cats is a trip to Fairmont tonight at 5:00 p.m. They’ll be back in action again on Monday, March 14, when they host Marlboro County for a rematch at 6:30 p.m.
