Foxes Fall to Lady Gators

Lake View’s Lady Gators defeated Marion’s Swamp Foxes 9-3 in the first night of regular season softball on Monday.

The winning pitcher for Lake View was Avonlea Cooke, who pitched six innings, striking out nine Marion players and allowing only three runs, three hits, and two walks.

Morgan Wethington was the lead hitter, going 3-5 and hitting a home run. She made three runs and had four RBIs. Avonlea Cooke went 2-3 with one run and three RBIs, and Brittany Floyd went 1-2 with two runs.

The losing pitcher was Abbie Shelley, who pitched a complete game and gave up nine runs, four walks, and 10 hits. Shelley managed only two strikeouts.

Marion’s leading hitters were Alexis Hopkins, 1-2 with two runs; and Angela Washington, 1-1 with a triple and two RBIs.

Lake View’s regular season record improved to 1-0, while their overall record improves to 5-1. Marion falls to 0-1.

On Tuesday, March 8, Lake View played a double header against Hemingway. The two games each went for only three innings, with Lake View dominating both games 15-0. Look for more details in Tuesday’s issue of THE DILLON HERALD.

The Lady Gators will take on Green Sea-Floyds tonight at 6:00 p.m. and back at home on Tuesday, March 15, to host Johnsonville at 5:30 p.m.
