Latta Gets First Win of Season Over Lake View; Lady Vikings Triumph 58-36

The Latta Vikings boys pulled out their first win of the season on Friday over the Lake View Wild Gators, coming back from a tough first half to win 64-54.

Lake View narrowly led the first two quarters, outscoring Latta by one point in each, 17-16 and 12-11. But Latta rallied in the third quarter with the help of HyKeem McClellan who scored 15 points in the third quarter, helping the Vikings outscore the Gators 20-15. Then in the fourth, Latta’s Travise Kinney scored 10 points to lead them 17-10 over Lake View in the quarter, and putting them 10 points ahead of Lake View for the final score of 64-54.

McClellan earned a game-high 33 points for the Vikings, with Travise Kinney adding 17 and Donnell Stanley adding 13. Kelvin Ladson also added one point.

For Lake View, Jordan Miller was the lead scorer with 12 points, followed closely by Rashon McDonald with 11. Darius Leonard added nine points, and Michael Page and Chris Ford each added six. Jamal Ford contributed four points, and Tyrice Brunson, Morgan McDaniel, and Antonio Butler each added two.

The win brings Latta’s record to 1-6 for the season and 1-1 in Region 8-A. Lake View falls to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the region.

The next game scheduled for the Latta boys will be Tuesday, January 11, at Carvers Bay. Then on Friday, January 14, they will travel to take on Green Sea-Floyds. Lake View’s next game will be at Creek Bridge on Friday, January 14.

The Lady Vikings earned their second win of the season over Lake View in Friday night’s matchup, defeating the Lady Gators 58-36.

Lake View led only the first quarter in scoring, 8-7, but Latta dominated the second and third with scroes of 13-4 and 21-7 over Lake View. The two teams tied 17-17 in the fourth for a final score of Latta 58, Lake View 36.

Quasheika Page led Latta to victory with a game-high 27 points. Tianna Deberry added 10 points, and Fe’Reshia Paige and Brittany Burgess each added four. Jessica Evans contributed three points to the victory, and with Charise Braddy, Kierra Johnson, Amber Berry, Jocelyn Vereen, and Britney Burrell each adding two.

Lake View was led by Jaquanna Davis with a team-high 15 points. Tranya Ford and Temeka Green each added six points, and Chelsea Miller and Pam Butler each added four. Wallane Taylor added one point for the Gators.

The win improves the Lady Vikings record to 2-5 for the season and 2-0 in the region. Lake View falls to 2-6 for the season.

The Lady Gators travel to Carvers Bay on Tuesday, January 11, and then travel again on Friday, January 14 to face Green Sea-Floyds. Lake View will travel to face Creek Bridge on Friday, January 14.
