A less than five minute workshop was held on Friday regarding the applications for the county administrator position.
Rodney Berry is currently serving as the interim county administrator.
According to the advertisement for the position placed by the county, “this position requires: a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration or a related field from an accredited college/university (a master’s degree is preferred); progressively responsible local government experience at the executive level of administrator, manager or assistant administrator for a county or municipality; and sinificant expertise in local government law, planning, budgeting, finance and personnel.”
The ad further states that “this person serves as chief administrative officer of the County under County Council’s authority and executes policies, directives and legislative actions of the Council; works with County staff and elected officials to develop and implement short and long-range plans; fosters a positive public image for the County; and exercises sound management and financial practices to optimize staff performance and meximize benefits to the public. Dillon County has a Council/Administrator form of governemnt. The Council is composed of seven members representing a population of about 32,000. The County employs about 295 employees and its budget is approximately 18.3 million.”
“The successful applicant will be responsible for the implementation and management of County-wide policies and must demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, decision making and technology skills.”
Scott said that the county council hires the administrator. He said they would not go into the applications in depth in this workshop.
Scott said and advertisement was placed and they had received applications. Each councilman was given a packet with these applications to review. He said the sole purpose of the workshop was to give the council members these packets. He said they will have a called meeting with an executive session regarding the applicants.
