Gators Shut Out Mustangs 10-0

Lake View’s Wild Gators earned another shut out win on Wednesday, defeating the South Robeson Mustangs 10-0 at home in Lake View in varsity baseball action.

The Gators picked up four runners in the bottom of the first inning and four more in the fifth before sealing the win with two in the sixth. Carson Rogers singled and Josh Price doubled in the first inning, with Weston Rogers reaching on a walk and Brent Herlong reaching on an error. Singles from Luc Newell and Connor Anderson helped the Gators to a 4-0 lead.

In the fifth, Herlong and Anderson both singled, and De’Ante Bridgett drew a walk, with Carson Rogers reaching on an error. A single from Weston Rogers brought in Carson Rogers to put the Gators up 8-0. In the sixth, Justin Elliott reached on an error, and Herlong walked. A grounder from Newell scored Elliott, and Herlong scored on an error to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Josh Price got the win on the mound, pitching all six innings for three hits and seven outs. For the Mustangs, Devin Smith pitched three innings for seven hits, four runs, one earned run, and two walks, striking out two. Dakota Clark pitched two innings for three hits, four runs, two earned runs, two walks, and two outs. Josh Locklear pitched one third of an inning for two runs and two walks.

At bat for the Gators, Anderson was 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run; Price was 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI, and one run; Newell was 1-for-3 with two RBI; Herlong was 1-for-3 with one RBI and three runs; Carson Rogers was 1-for-4 with two runs; Weston Rogers was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run; Elliott was 1-for-4 with one run; Nick Collins was 1-for-3; and Bridgett scored one run.

For the Mustangs, Devin Smith was 2-for-3 and Dakota Clark was 1-for-2. South Robeson had four errors in the effort.

Lake View improved to 13-0 overall and holds a 6-0 record in Region 8-A. It was the eleventh shut out for the Gators since they hosted their pre-season tournament. The Gators have only allowed two runs since then, one against Dillon in the tournament, and one against Mullins on March 13.

The Wild Gators were scheduled to travel this week for the Mingo Bay Spring Break Tournament.

Lake View will return to regular season action on the road next Wednesday, April 8, to face their local and regional rivals, the Latta Vikings. The Vikings are 3-0 in the region, and were ranked second in the state in the March 20 SC Baseball Coaches Association polls, while the Gators were ranked fifth. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m., so make plans to attend for some great baseball action!
