Dillon Teams Dominate Dixie Ponytails and Dixie Belles Tournaments

The District Three Ponytails Sub-District Championship and District Three Belles Dillon Championship were held in Dillon on Monday, June 20, through Friday, June 24, with Dillon’s teams dominating both tournaments.

The Ponytails tournament, for girls 12 and under, featured a wide range of teams including Dillon, Lake View, Latta, Marion, Marlboro County, Pamplico, Mullins, and Cheraw.

In the first round of the tournament, Dillon shut out Marlboro County 20-0, and Mullins allowed Pamplico only one run for a final score of 20-1. Latta fell to Cheraw 19-4 with Maggie Boileau taking the lose on the mound. Cheraw pitcher Audra Butler picked up the win. In the final game of the evening, Lake View defeated Marion 18-8 with Lake View’s Lyric Lane earning the win on the mound. Marion’s Kearra Crowner took the loss.

In Tuesday’s winners bracket, Dillon shut out Lake View 18-0, while Mullins defeated Cheraw 21-11. In the two losers bracket games, Marlboro County defeated Marion 17-7, while Pamplico eliminated Latta 18-4.

Wednesday night saw Dillon add another shut out as they defeated Mullins 21-0 in the winners bracket. Marlboro County took on Cheraw for a 20-8 win, allowing them to move on to face Dillon on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lake View narrowly defeated Pamplico 12-10 to move on to face Mullins.

In Thursday night’s action, Dillon defeated Marlboro 13-1, while Mullins defeated Lake View 10-7 to set up a final round between Dillon and Mullins on Friday. Dillon walked away with a 14-2 win to give Dillon the District 3 Sub-District Championship title.

On Monday, the Dillon Ponytails were scheduled to face Sumter for the District Three Championship title in a best of three series. Game two will be played tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Dillon. Game three, if necessary, will be played at 8:00 p.m.

The Belles tournament for ages 13-15 had fewer teams, but just as much action with Dillon, Cheraw, Johnsonville, Latta, and Darlington all vying for the district championship.

In the opening round on Monday, Dillon shut out Cheraw 20-0, while Darlington defeated Latta 12-4. Latta’s Shayna Berry went 2-for-3, Mattie Long went 1-for-3, and Cora Owens went 2-for-3. Laura Cook pitched for Latta, striking out seven and walking two. Cook took the loss for Latta, with Darlington’s Lakin Taylor pitching three innings and Adrianna Weatherford pitching four for the win.

In round two on Tuesday, Cheraw narrowly defeated Latta 8-6 in the loser bracket match-up, while Dillon took on Johnsonville, who received a bye in the first round. Dillon won the game 11-1, while Darlington took a night off.

On Wednesday, Cheraw fell 18-7 to Johnsonville in the losers bracket, while Dillon downed Darlington 8-0 before taking a night off on Thursday. Johnsonville and Darlington were in action, though, with Darlington walking away with a 13-3 win over Johnsonville.

On Friday, Dillon defeated Darlington 8-0 to claim the District Three Championship.
