Dillon Dental Giants Lead League After First Week

After the first week of Dixie Youth Baseball, The Dillon Dental Giants are on top of the Major League with back to back wins over the Stanton Chiropractic Yankees on Wednesday and Friday. ACE Hardware has the same 2-0 record in the Minor League with a 15-4 decision over Dillon Internal Medicine and a 7-2 win over McLeod-Dillon. Internal Medicine had a 5-3 win over McLeod in Monday’s rainout makeup on Wednesday.
Avery Sherman struck out sixteen Giants on Wednesday, but didn’t get a decision in the Majors after leaving the mound tied at the end of the sixth, 2-2. Manny Davis came on in relief and gave up a single to Reece Bracey, who scored the winning run on an overthrow when Hayden Moody followed with a ground-out.
Sherman was the leading batter in the game for the Yankees with an inside the park solo home run, drove in another run with a first inning double and singled in the sixth. KiKi Palmer and Kayson Smith added singles in a losing cause. Ryan Carter and Jaden Williamson combined for eighteen strike outs for the Giants with Carter picking up the win. The two singled and scored a run a piece and Bracey’s hit led to the winning run. In the rematch on Friday, the Giants shut out the Yankees, 6-0, with Carter and Williamson again splitting the time on the mound. Carter picked up his second win on a 3-hitter with nine strikeouts and Williamson threw two shutout innings allowing one hit and whiffed four. Carter had a solo homer that cleared the left field fence, Williamson followed with a triple and Reece Bracey had a two-run single. For the Yankees, Avery Sherman had a double and single in two trips to the plate and Zy Murphy singled.
In the Minor League, Dillon Internal Medicine scored four runs in the fourth inning on Wednesday and held on to defeat McLeod-Dillon, 5-3. J.J Campbell scored a run on a bases loaded walk in the first. Rock Sellers hit a 2-run single in the third inning for McLeod and Aaron Starr contributed a single for the only two hits allowed by Internal Medicine pitching.
In Thursday’s only game, ACE Hardware put the game with McLeod away with four runs in the second and added two more in the fourth to win the game, 7-2.
ACE hurlers Aiden Lancaster and Bryson Berry combined to throw the first no-hitter of the season with Berry getting the win in relief. ACE was led at the plate by DeAndre Greene with two hits and Jackson Shooter recorded a single.
Lake View will be in Dillon to take on Internal Medicine in Monday’s only game and two games are on tap in the Majors on Tuesday with Lake View #1 facing the Giants and in the second game, the Yankees will host Lake View #2.
