Doris “Dot” Toomey Elvington (Wiley)

Doris “Dot” Toomey Elvington (Wiley), 89, of Kannapolis, NC, Dillon, SC, and, most recently, Trinity Oaks retirement community in Salisbury, NC died on January 10, following a very brief illness.

Dot was born on November 10, 1934 in Mt. Holly, NC, a daughter of the late Earl Edward and Evelyn Ingle Toomey.
Dot graduated from Mt. Holly High School in 1953 and continued her studies at Queens College in Charlotte. She held several administrative secretarial positions over a 40-year career including school secretary at Royal Oaks Elementary School in Kannapolis and executive assistant to Superintendents James Roquemore and Ray Rogers at Dillon School District Two/Four in Dillon, SC.
Dot had a deep spiritual relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She spent many hours in bible study and was active in the altar guild of every church she was a member. She was particularly proud of her work to encourage others to spend time in prayer and for some to launch their careers in the ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Tony Dean Wiley; her husbands, James Michael “Mike” Wiley, Jr. and Kenneth Rogers Elvington; a sister, Regis Toomey Stone; and a brother, Bobby Ray “Butch” Toomey.
Family members left to cherish Dot’s memory are her son, Terry Michael Wiley (Carolyn); her daughter, Sandy Wiley Summerlin (Joe); her five grandchildren, Laura Jane Wiley, Charles Michael Wiley (Laura Marion), Adam McKinley Summerlin (Athena), Wesley Ryan Summerlin (Hannah), and Krista Danielle Wiley; her six great-grandchildren, Weslyn, Sam, Caroline, Riley, McKinley, and Britley; her brothers, Perry Toomey (Betty) and Pat Toomey (Ann); her twin sister, Peggy Toomey Williams (Bill); her younger sister, Earline Toomey Handsel; her brother-in-law Henry Wiley (Betty); sister-in-law Mary Lillian Pass (Jerry); her step-children, Tim Elvington, Kenny Elvington, and Cynthia Elvington; and her step-grandchildren, Alana Elvington Morgan and Bryant Elvington.
A private burial in Mt. Holly, NC will be held at a later date.
