Pee Dee Coalition Gets Grant

FLORENCE — Kohl’s National Giveback Initiative on Giving Tuesday, granted Pee Dee Coalition and 199 other nonprofits nationwide $25,000 to support the improvement of family health and wellness. The Coalition plans to use these funds to support its Prevention Program, Prevent Child Abuse Pee Dee (PCAPD), enable the expansion of the school-based child abuse prevention utilizing the evidence- based curriculum “Talking About Touch” to other elementary schools, initiate a regional media campaign during April, Child Abuse Prevention Month with other child-serving nonprofits, and host trainings to area business leaders on the impact of sexual abuse and strategies for prevention in the workplace.
Kohl’s grant to Pee Dee Coalition was made through the company’s National Giveback Initiative, which provides associates with the opportunity to nominate a nonprofit they’re passionate about for a $25,000 grant. The Coalition was thrilled to know its Marion County Board of Directors member and Kohl’s of Florence Store Manager, Cindy Sweat-Bass nominated the organization for this grant.
“I am a believer in the Coalition’s mission and want to put a focus on those areas that are the most needed and underfunded! We are just doing our best to make a difference in the community,” said Cindy Sweat-Bass, Kohl’s Store Manager of Florence.
“We are honored to receive this grant from Kohl’s Initiative. This grant will allow us to continue our classroom-based child sexual abuse prevention program in the Pee Dee area. With help from our community and partnerships like this with Kohl’s Initiative, we are working to make our community a safer place for our children,” said Katy Brown, DCC Prevention Coordinator.
Through the initiative, Kohl’s will donate grants to selected nonprofits nationwide, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to family health and wellness. The full list of selected grant recipients is available on Corporate.Kohls.com. Donations are made possible through Kohl’s Cares Goods for Good merchandise program, which sells children’s books and toys and donates 100 percent of the net profit to charitable organizations across the country.
