Animal Shelter Holding Holiday Adoption Campaign

All over the United States, animal shelters, rescue groups and other animal advocates are reporting that there is a major crisis in animal care. Overcrowding, overbreeding, lack of support from potential adopters, returns of previously adopted pets, and a general lack of concern for needy animals are all contributing factors to this crisis. During the Covid pandemic, there were many adoptions and new fosters, but concern and caring for animals fell by the wayside once life returned to normal.

The present situation in Dillon County is no different from any other county across the country. The Dillon County Animal Shelter is filled to over-capacity, and County officials recently closed it to intake with the exception of animals that pose a threat to the public. There are homeless animals all over Dillon County, hungry, cold, and in constant danger from predators and accidents. Shelters in neighboring counties have closed to intake also for a variety of reasons.
In view of this desperate situation, the County Administrator Tim Harper, Dillon County Council, and the Dillon County Animal Shelter Director Randy Grimsley have joined forces to sponsor a Holiday Adoption Campaign in which all animals’ adoption fees are half-price. The Dillon Herald has also participated by running ads for adoptable animals, and featuring “Pets of the Week.”
The Holiday Adoption Campaign will run through December.
All the people and organizations involved in the Holiday Adoption Campaign encourage Dillon County citizens to consider giving a homeless cat or dog a safe, loving home. As anyone who has adopted a needy pet knows, the rewards of love, loyalty, and friendship are priceless.
