The Hartsville Red Foxes returned home with a 51-34 win over the Dillon Wildcats in a hard-fought battle played in Dillon on Friday, September 8.
The Dillon Wildcats were plagued with penalties and costly mistakes on special teams throughout the game. However, Dillon controlled the momentum in the first half.
Dillon took the opening kickoff and moved the football well capitalizing on a touchdown run by Kamarion Singletary with 9:57 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas to give Dillon a 7-0 lead.
With 8:16 remaining in the first quarter, McKendrie Douglas fired a touchdown pass to Skylar Wilson in the end zone for 6 points. Brayden Smith connected for the PAT, and the game was knotted at 7.
After Dillon moved the football from their own 10-yard line, Sirmod McCallum scored from the 1-yard line with 3:16 remaining in the first quarter. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon was up 14-7.
With 10:29 remaining in the second quarter, Hakeem Watters rushed for a 35-yard touchdown. Brayden Smith’s PAT was good. The game was once again knotted at 14.
With 7:28 remaining in the second quarter, Dillon’s Sirmod McCallum scored. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas to give the Wildcats a 21-14 lead.
The Wildcats’ Kamarion Singletary scored with 58 seconds remaining in the first half. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. This would give Dillon a 28-14 lead.
The Red Foxes’ Brayden Smith attempted a field goal but came up short.
At halftime, Dillon was up 28-14.
The momentum changed at halftime. The Red Foxes seemed in control. Within 3 minutes of the third quarter, Hartsville scored 15 points and took the lead!
With 9:32 remaining in the third quarter. Carmello McDaniel scored. The 2-point conversion was good. Dillon’s lead was cut to 28-22.
Dillon fumbled the kickoff, and Hartsville recovered on Dillon’s 35-yard line. With 9:10 remaining in the third quarter, Hartsville’s Carmello McDaniel scored from 39 yards out. The PAT was good by Brayden Smith. Hartsville took the lead, 29-28.
With 5:42 remaining in the third quarter, Dillon’s Sirmod McCallum scored. However, a penalty negated the score. With 5:36 remaining in the third quarter, Dillon’s Kamarion Singletary scored. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Dillon was up 34-29.
After 3 quarters of play, Dillon was up 34-29.
However, the fourth quarter proved costly for the Wildcats. Dillon was forced to punt from the end zone with 9:49 remaining in the game. A bad snap led to a Hartsville safety that cut Dillon’s lead to 3 points, 34-31. The Wildcats’ Stephen Rojas kicked from Dillon’s own 20-yard line. J’shawn Anderson returned the kick to Dillon’s 10-yard line. With 9:08 remaining in the game, Carmello McDaniel scored from 33 yards out to give Hartsville a 37-34 lead. Brayden Smith’s PAT was good. Hartsville was up 38-34.
Dillon was forced to punt. A bad snap over the punter’s head led to Hartsville with the football on Dillon’s 1-yard line.
With 6:39 remaining in the game, Carmello McDaniel carried the pigskin in for 6 points. The PAT was good by Brayden Smith. Hartsville led 45-34.
In the waning minutes of the game, the Red Foxes added another touchdown to go up 51-34. Dillon will host Socastee on Friday, September 15, at 7:30 p.m. while Hartsville will host Irmo.
