The Latta Lady Vikings defeated the visiting Marion Lady Swamp Foxes 56-51 in Latta on Thursday, January 20.
The Lady Vikings jumped out to an 18-3 lead after the first quarter that the Lady Swamp Foxes were unable to overcome.
In the second quarter of play, the Lady Swamp Foxes outscored the Lady Vikings 13-6. Marion outscored Latta 19-16 in the third quarter of play. In the fourth quarter each team placed 16 points on the scoreboard.
Latta’s Makayla Legette led all scorers with 30 points as she connected for eight 2-point baskets, three 3-point baskets, and 4 free throws while Shawniza Bethea had three 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 6 free throws for 15 points. Layla Hyatt sank three 2-point baskets and a free throw for 7 points.
Kardae McFadden added two 2-point baskets for 4 points.
Marion’s Yasmie Howard led the Lady Swamp Foxes with 19 points on five 3-point baskets and two 2-point baskets. Miracle Samuels placed 18 points on the scoreboard with seven 2-point baskets and 4 free throws. Destiny Allen added a 3-point basket, a 2-point basket, and a free throw for 6 points while Jaeda Davis had 6 points on two 2-point baskets and 2 free throws. M. Washington sank a 2-point basket.
Marion committed 7 fouls, and Latta committed 3 fouls in the first half. Marion committed 9 fouls while Latta committed 11 fouls in the second half.
