Darius Leonard, Indianapolis Colts linebacker and Lake View native, hosted a free youth football camp on Saturday, July 3, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Lake View High School football field.
Leonard is a 2x Pro Bowl and 2x All-Pro linebacker who gives back to the community whenever possible.
In 2020 Leonard played in 14 games and had 3 sacks, 86 solo tackles, and 3 forced fumbles for the Indianapolis Colts.
In his short career thus far he has played in 42 games and had 15 sacks, 268 solo tackles, and 9 forced fumbles. Leonard is excited for the upcoming Indianapolis Colts NFL football season.
The 6′ 2″, 230-pound superstar was very pleased with the great turn-out for the camp. Leonard stated there would be lots of one on one action and lots of competition on the field.
Leonard said, “It’s great to have championship teams in my home town. It’s also great that colleges are going to pay student athletes.” Leonard had several coaches who helped with the camp. Those in attendance received lots of attention in the fast-paced event. However, Leonard and his staff were certain to provide “water breaks” to keep everyone hydrated.
Everyone left the event knowing they received great instruction on the football field and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
While at the event, Darius “Maniac” Leonard donated 20 helmets and 20 sets of shoulder pads to Kenneth Bethea, Director of the Lake View Recreation Department.
Marques Fitch, Executive Director for Darius Leonard’s Maniac Foundation informed us that Darius always wants to give back to the community. “It warms Darius’ heart when he gives to the community.”
