Barbara Darlene Norman MacDonell

Barbara Darlene Norman MacDonell, 87, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020, surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at Main Street United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6th. There will be no visitation or grave-side service. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.
Darlene was born in Miami, Florida on March 4, 1933, to the late Edna Morris and Guy Norman. She grew up in Southwest Miami, attending Coral Gables High School (class of ‘51), where she was captain of the Coral Gables Cavaliers, and loved driving to school in her Model A Ford. She graduated with an education degree from the University of Miami. Darlene taught physical education, career guidance, and journalism for many years in Miami. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon, served on the Dillon County Theater Board, and managed Twin Lakes Country Club’s restaurant. She enjoyed hosting her annual musical concerts with family and friends. Darlene was an avid sports fan, especially of the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat and her alma mater, Miami Hurricanes. She loved her family and friends very much, and was especially proud of her legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite things were attending the Morris family reunions, and entertaining her friends and family at social gatherings.
Darlene is survived by her four children, Randy MacDonell of Miami, FL, Linda MacDonell Wallace (Phil) of Dillon, SC, Michael Guy MacDonell (Maria) of Miami, FL, and Steven Kenneth MacDonell (Michelle) of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Nicholas (Nicole), Jennifer (Jess), Kelley (Adam), all of Dillon, SC; Jackie (Mike) of Albany, NY; Christy, Trevor, Amanda, Jasmine, all of Miami, FL; Steven (Hannah), Luke, Daniel, Taylor (Timothy), all of Dallas, TX; and twenty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Sam Norman of Florida; and her sister and best friend, Phyllis Farley (Jim) of Tavares, FL; and many beloved extended family members.
