Dixie Youth Play In Latta

On Monday, July 6, the Dixie Youth took to the baseball/softball fields at Academy Street Park In Latta, S.C., to engage in America’s favorite pastime..baseball. What better way to spend an evening while acquiring some of God’s vitamin D and providing entertainment for moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and acquaintances.
During this time, some youth have given up the diamonds for less activity such as cell phones, games, etc. However, to the youth who still want to participate, the fields were ready to serve the baseball needs.
As each batter came to the plate to face the opposing pitcher, everyone cheered each player, whether on defense or offense. Fun was had by all. As is the case with sports, there has to be a winner and a loser in each game as was evidenced in the Majors 11-12-year olds as Dillon Dental Giants handed Latta Drugs a 12-6 loss.
Jaden Williamson was the starting pitcher for the Giants.
He pitched 3 innings, and Ryan Carter who was catching came in as a relief pitcher for the fourth inning. Carter was 3 for 3 at-the-plate. Jazien Gilchrist hit an inside-the-park grand slam.
The Giants are coached by Brad Sawyer, head coach, and assistants Kent Bracey and Roger McCall.
Latta Drug is coached by head coach Wade Brown and assistant coach Bryan Berry.

The Physicians Healthcare Yankees played McColl Custom Cabinets to a 1-1 tie in 5 innings at the Academy Street Park in Latta on Monday, July 6.
Dillon’s Avery Sherman pitched the 5-inning match-up.
Dillon was leading on the lone run scored by Armana Huggins-Bruce with 2 outs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Fisher Richardson scored to knot the game at 1 each.
The Yankees are coached by head coach John Wagner and assistant coach Dustin Cook while McColl Custom Cabinets are coached by head coach Ryan Richardson.
The Minor League teams, McLeod Health Dillon and Lake View, played to a 2-2 tie after 7 innings of play in a 2 1/2 hour-marathon game that ended at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, at the Dillon Kiwanis Ball Field.
