Wildcats Suffer Heartbreaking Loss To Lake View

The Dillon Wildcats suffered a heartbreak-loss, 43-40, with only 20 seconds remaining in the game on Friday, January 10, in Dillon in varsity basketball.
After the presentation of the colors by the Dillon JROTC prior to the game and the National Anthem, Lake View controlled the tip-off. Dillon’s Brennen Reeves connected for a 3-point shot to give Dillon the first lead of the game. Lake View’s Jiqyle responded with a 2-point basket of this own. The lead went back-and-forth between Dillon and Lake View.
Dillon held a slim 2-point lead, 10-8, after the first quarter. Lake View’s Ja’Montrell Waters quickly hit a 3-point shot to take the lead. The teams found themselves tied on several occasions and the lead changed on several occasions in the second quarter. By halftime, Lake View held a 21-19 lead.
Dillon’s Keshawn Greer quickly tied the game at 21 in the start of the third quarter of play. The game would be tied, and the lead would change. Dillon managed a 7-point lead before Lake View whittled away the lead to end the third quarter in a 34 to 34 tie.
In the fourth period of play the lead would once again go back and forth between the two teams. However, the Wild Gators’ Ja’Montrell Waters sank the winning 3-point basket with 20 seconds remaining in the game.
Lake View’s Montrell Waters scored a game-high 18 points. Larry Inman connected for 12 points, and Ja’Correus Ford added 5 points. Da’Correus Ford and Jiqyle Reaves each managed 3 points in the contest while Derrick Bethea garnered 2 points.
Dillon’s Brennen Reeves scored 12 points. Omar McKinley and Keshawn Green each added 8 points, and Shamarion McKinnon connected for 5 points. Kendrick Cabbagestalk and Jaylen McCall each contributed 2 points while TyQuzz McRae garnered 1 point.
Dillon will host Aynor today (Tuesday, January 14).
