Allan Preston Brigman


LATTA – Allan Preston Brigman of Latta, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, surrounded by family and friends.
Allan was born January 2, 1933 in Marion County and was raised in Latta. He was predeceased by his parents, John Oliver Brigman and Eunice Bechler Brigman, two brothers, J.O. and Aaron, and sister, Eloise Epps, and Aunt Dovie of the home.
He attended Wofford College and then came home to begin his farming career. In 1966, he was named, “Outstanding Young Farmer of Dillon County.” He continued farming until the late 1990s.
Allen was a member of Latta Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and several terms as deacon and chairman of the board. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of the Fellowship Hall for the church. He was a member of Dalco Lodge and a Shriner. He was a charter member of the Latta Lions Club.
Allan served on the Latta Town Council for 21 years and as Mayor of the Town for 10 years. Also he was a volunteer fireman for 31 years. Allan was one of the three original sponsors of the Latta Pig Pickin’.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Green Brigman, and a daughter, Patricia Brigman McLaurin (Trey) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Latta Baptist Church with burial that followed in Magnolia Cemetery. Pastor Rob Pierce officiated with Dr. Buddy Bach on the organ accompanied by Mary Freitas on the piano. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta.
