Rev. Sammy O. Clardy

Rev. Sammy O. Clardy, age 81, husband of Mrs. Carole J. Clardy passed away October 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Rev. Clardy was born February 8, 1937 a son of the late Cermette J. and Billie Cox Clardy.
After graduating from Dillon High School, Rev. Clardy went to Wofford College where he graduated with a degree in education and became a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
After serving in the Army, Rev. Clardy taught, coached, and was in administration for 30 years at different Dillon County Schools and Barnwell County Schools. During this time he received his Master’s Degree from Appalachian State University.
After retiring from public schools, Rev. Clardy attended Duke Divinity Course of Study and was later ordained as a United Methodist Minister. Rev. Clardy served many United Methodist Churches throughout the state of South Carolina.
He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and pastor. He never met a stranger and loved everyone he came in contact with. He was a great man that touched and impacted many lives throughout his career.
Rev. Clardy was a member of the Latta Lions Club, Rotary Club, and was inducted into the Dillon County Athletic Hall of Fame for winning two state Championships in basketball.
He was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Alan Clardy, and a son-in-law, Kevin Jenerette.
In addition to his wife, Rev. Clardy is survived by one son, Samuel T. Clardy (Sarah) of Lexington, SC; three daughters, Melissa C. Rowell (Frank) of Lugoff, SC, Caren C. Jenerette of Galivants Ferry, SC, Catherine C. Clardy of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, Cermette “Sonny” J. Clardy Jr. (Anne) of Isle of Palms, SC; eight grandchildren: Rebecca A. Rowell, Zachary N. Jenerette, Caroline G. Rowell, Caleb T. Jenerette, Emily L. Clardy, Justin A. Clardy, and Emma C. and Bella C. Craw.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday October 4, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home of 290 9th Ave. Aynor, SC 29511 and Friday October 5, 2018 at Latta United Methodist Church from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday October 5, 2018 at Latta United Methodist Church, 306 N. Marion Street Latta, SC 29565, with the Rev. Mike Rouse and Rev. Ron Pettit officiating.
Burial will follow at Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2775 Barnhill Road, Galivants Ferry, SC 29544, at 4:30 p.m. Friday October 5, 2018 with Rev. Mike Rouse and Rev. John Watts officiating.
