On Friday, September 21st, the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department hosted a free food pantry for the members of the Oakland community who had been displaced or affected by Hurricane Florence flooding.
Families were allowed to shop in the OVFD community center for canned goods, bottled water, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, diapers and baby food, household/kitchen utensils. Donations were supplied by local churches with The Pee Dee Baptist Association of Dillon and The Red Cross.
The OVFD also distributed over 900 meals prepared by The Shepherd’s Pie ministry Friday, September 21st-Sunday September 23rd. Meals & supplies were also delivered to members of the community who were elderly and/or disabled that couldn’t otherwise transport themselves. The OVFD helped many families evacuate, and also provided safe housing for several families during the flood.
The children of OVFD even helped by hand delivering plates, carrying food to cars,sorting donations, and helping bag grocery items.
