The Latta Vikings dealt the Johnsonville Flashes a 6-1 loss in Latta on Monday, May 7, in the Class 2A lower state playoffs.
Latta took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, added a run in the bottom of the fourth, and 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Johnsonville’s lone score came in the top of the seventh inning.
Latta’s Kyra Grant connected for 2 singles, a rbi, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats while Jesselyn Bryant also connected for 2 singles in 2 at-bats. Jayla Jackson hit a triple and scored 2 runs in her 3 at-bats. Riana Green managed a single, a rbi, and scored a run in her2 at-bats. Madison Owens had a double, a walk, a rbi, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Kaleigh Caulder garnered a double and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Arica Gandy picked up a rbi in her 2 at-bats.
Johnsonville’s Olivia Powell was perfect at the plate with 3 singles in 3 at-bats while Jada Cox had a double and scored a run in her 3 at-bat. Brook Thames doubled in her 4 qt-bsats. C. Lamb had a single in her 3 at-bats, and Jada Parsons also singled in her 4 at-bats. Maelyn Thompson picked up he only rbi of the game for Johnsonville. Kirby Blakely garnered a walk in the game.
Latta committed 2 errors in the game, and Johnsonville committed only 1.
Arica Gandy picked up the win for the Latta Vikings. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 7 hits, 1 earned run, walked 1, and struck out 3.
Jada Parsons was charged with the loss. She started on the mound for the Flashes and pitched 5 innings. She allowed 7 hits, 6 runs of which 4 were earned, walked 1, and struck out 2. Jada Cox pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 hits, walked no one, struck out no one, and allowed no runs.
Latta has won 23 games and lost 5 in the season.
Johnsonville has won 18 games and lost 6 in the season.
