Latta Vikings Basketball Update 12-7-17

The Latta Vikings varsity basketball team dropped a close one to Loris at home on Tuesday, December 5, 62-58.
Although Latta controlled the tip-off Loris’ Brandon Page placed the first 3-point shot on the scoreboard that was quickly followed by a 2-point shot by Deonte Stanley followed by a 3-point shot by J.R. McClam. Loris’ J. Isiah connected on a 3-point shot.
The action was fast and furious and before one realized the first period was over with the Loris Lions in front 15-10.
At halftime, Latta had cut the lead to only 2 points.
At the end of the third period of play, Latta was down 46-40.
The game ended with Loris on top 62-58.
Deonte Stanley led Latta with 15 points followed by Naeem Robers and Darius McRae each with 13 points. J.R. McClam added 9 points followed by Nasir Sellers with 6 points. Shiheed Jones garnered 2 points.
J. Isiah led the Lions in scoring with 20 points while T. Walters and D. Grissett each had 15 points. L. Stevenson placed 9 points on the scoreboard while W. Hemingway had 2, and D. Johnson added another point.
Latta will host Dillon on Friday, December 8.

The Latta Vikings varsity boys easily handled Lamar 69-38 in varsity basketball action on Monday, December 4, in Latta.
After jumping out to a 9-point lead after the first period of play, the Vikings continued to score and build a big lead. At halftime, Latta led 25-7. However, in the third period Lamar scored 16 points while holding Latta to 15. The Vikings pumped in 29 points to Lamar’s 15 in the final period.
Latta’s Naeem Roberts hit for 19 points to lead all scorers of the game. Darius McRae and J. R. McClam each added 14 points while Jones added 6 and Miles connected for 5. Butts contribute 3 points in the win.
JaQuez Lucas and MyKal Mack each hit for 11 points for Lamar and Pearson added 9 while McCullough connected for 6 and Byrd added 2 points.
Lamar is 0-5 while Latta is 1-1.
Latta will host Dillon on Friday, December 8.

The Latta Vikings came up short in the come-back effort in the varsity basketball game played in Latta on Tuesday, December 5, losing 51-42.
The Vikings found themselves down 13-6 at the end of the first period and by halftime the Vikings were down 23 points, 36-13.
However, the Vikings fought back outscoring the Lions 29-15 in the second half but that was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Moya McDuffie scored 16 points for Latta while Riana Green hit for 9 and Arica Gandy garnered 6 points. D. Green and James each added 4 points while Johnson got 3.
The Loris Lions were led by I. Green with 17 points followed by Bellamy with 9. Gause hit for 8, and Harris added 5. Hayes and Green each got 4 points while Jenerette and Lay garnered 2 points.
Latta will host Dillon on Friday, December 9, at 6:00 p.m.

The Latta Vikings girls varsity basketball team edged out Lamar 45-42 in Latta on Monday, December 4.
Lamar Nari Coe tied the game at 43 with 5.8 seconds remaining on the clock. However, Latta’s Riana Green connected for a layup as time expired to give Latta the 2-point win.
Although the Lamar Silver Foxes held a slim 2-point lead after the first period, the game was knotted at 19 at halftime.
Latta held a 3-point lead at the end of 3 periods.
Latta’s Moya McDuffie pumped in 17 points in the game while Riana Green had 16 of which she scored 10 of Latta’s last 12 points of the game. Arica Gandy added 8 points while Johnson and James each contributed 2 points.

Lamar was led by Simone Durant with 15 points followed by Kat Coe with 12. Keyasia Sparks added 7 points while N. Coe had 5 and Peoples contributed 3 points.
Lamar is 2-4, and Latta is 1-1.
Latta will host Dillon on Friday, December 8, at 6:00 p.m.
