Dillon City Council Takes Up Several Matters At November Meeting

A number of items were taken up at the Dillon City Council’s regular November meeting.
Mayor Todd Davis gave his report. Among the items he mentioned were:
-The Christmas parade in Dillon will be November 30th beginning at 4:00 p.m.
-The city has been working on a Christmas tree for Main Street that they could use every year. they will put it out near the fountain. He said they will have some activities when the Polar Express comes back on December 2nd at 6:00 p.m. including the lighting of the 20-foot tree.
-He reminded everyone about Holiday Goodness and the Chili Cook-off on November 18th.
-He mentioned the Smithsonian traveling exhibit that will be coming next year.
-He talked about the Duke Power energy grants for lighting that is available to businesses.
-Eight applications were received for the Upfit Grants.
-Car break-ins are occurring again. People are reminded to lock their vehicles.
– The grand opening of Little Caesars was held, and he is looking forward to the opening of Cookout.
City Manager Glen Wagner gave his report among the items that he spoke about were:
-The eight Upfit Grant applications have been turned over to the BAR (Board of Architectural review) to make sure they qualify. He said the council may need a special meeting in December to review the applications.
-He discussed the storm water fee proposal.
-He began the interviews for the Downtown Coordinator. Fourteen people applied.
He is interviewing seven of them.
He will then pick two or three for second interview.
In other action:
-Terry Morris made a presentation on the removal of the Island on East Main Street.
-The council passed the S.C Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund deductible resolution.
