The Lake View Wild Gators held on to hand the Mullins Auctioneers a 28-22 loss in varsity football action played in Lake View on Friday, September 8.
The Mullins Auctioneers picked up a first down on the first series of plays before having to punt when unable to move the ball on the second series of downs.
Lake View’s Benji Kelley picked up the initial first and ten of the game for Lake View. The Wild Gators continued to move the ball down field and managed to score on a pass from quarterback De’Ante Bridgett to Deonte Roberts with 6:26 remaining in the first quarter. The two-point conversion failed.
Mullins was unable to get the offense moving and was forced to punt. Lake View led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. With 10:08 remaining in the first half, the Mullins’ quarterback tossed a TD pass to #33 to knot the score at 6. The PAT was blocked.
The Wild Gators’ De’Ante Bridget threw a TD pass on third and long with 5:21 remaining in the first half to give Lake View a 12-6 lead. Lake View managed a 2-point conversion on a pass from De’Ante Bridget to Keiondre Wheeler to increase the lead 14-6. With 3:59 remaining in the first half, Mullins’ #24 scored on a rush and also ran in for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 14.
Lake View’s Fred Reaves returned the kickoff for a touchdown with 3:47 remaining in the second quarter. Webb Cardwell rushed for 2 points to give Lake View a 22-14 lead.
Lake View’s defense recovered a fumble with 2:59 remaining in the first half.
The Wild Gators were threatening to score as they carried the ball to the 11-yard line. However, with only 11 seconds left in the first half, De’Ante Bridgett was intercepted to end the threat.
At halftime Lake View led 22-14.
The Wild Gators began the second half moving the ball down the field. However, the Mullins defense halted the offense of the Wild Gators and took over on downs.
Mullins’ quarterback picked up a first down. On the next play #7 carried for 8 yards followed by a long TD pass from the quarterback to #24 with 3:27 remaining in the third quarter to cut Lake View’s lead 22-20. Mullins’ #24 rushed for the 2-point conversion to knot the score at 22.
Lake View quickly moved the ball to the 6-yard line on a long pass to Albert Wheeler.
After 3 quarters of play, the game was tied at 22.
De’Ante Bridgett carried the ball in for 6 points with 11:54 remaining in the game. The PAT was no good.
Neither team could muster any consistent offense on the next series of plays.
Lake View recovered a fumble with 5:12 remaining in the game. However, Mullins intercepted a pass with 5 minutes remaining in the game.
The Mullins Auctioneers threatened to score. However, the Lake View Wild Gators’ defense held them to take the 28-22 victory. Lake View’s De’Ante Bridget Passed for 216 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Jalik Roberts had 66 receiving yards on 5 receptions and 2 touchdowns. Remeer Sowell rushed for 43 yards on 5 carries. Benji Kelley picked up 101 yards on 24 carries. Tieray Blue led the Lake View defense with 15 tackles.
Lake View is 3-1 for the season. The Lake View Wild Gators will host Charleston Math and Science on Friday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m.
