Dillon District Four New Teachers Luncheon Held

New Teachers Luncheon (contributed)

A luncheon was held for Dillon District Four’s new teachers at the Twin Lakes Country Club on Wednesday.
The event was sponsored by First Citizens Bank.
New teachers enjoyed a delicious lunch and were introduced by school.
Below is a listing of the new teachers.

Dillon Middle School
Gary Barfield (P.E.) – A resident of Laurinburg, N.C., Mr. Barfield studied at South Florida Junior College and later received a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education at St. Andrews College. Gary was previously employed with the Scotland County School District. Mr. Barfield has 31 years of teaching experience in North Carolina and two in South Carolina. He also has 17 years of coaching experience in various sports such as baseball, football, and golf.
Ariel Fitts (Middle Level Math) – Ariel recently relocated to South Carolina from Richmond, Virginia. She studied at Virginia Polytechnic Institute/State University and at Radford University where she obtained a degree in Middle School Math/Science Curriculum and Instruction. She has taught eighth grade math and science for two years.
NayToniyan Green (Middle Level Science) – Miss Green is a resident of Marlboro county. She is a 2017 graduate of University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg. There she received a Bachelors of Science Degree. NayToniyan majored in middle level education and minored in math/science. She will be teaching science.
Ronald Hughes (Middle Level ELA) – Mr. Hughes resides in Fairmont, N.C. Mr. Hughes graduated from East Carolina University in 1981 with a Bachelor Science. He recently retired from Robeson County. While teaching in North Carolina, Mr. Hughes taught Language Arts, Social Studies, and Special Education.
Rebecca Strickland (Elementary) – Miss Strickland is a former graduate of Dillon High School. She recently graduated from Greenville University with a degree in Elementary Education. Miss Strickland will be teaching sixth grade math and science.
Cindy Quick (Middle Level Math/Science) – Mrs. Quick is a resident of Dillon. She attended Dillon Christian School. She is a 2017 graduate of Francis Marion University. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Middle Level Education. Mrs. Quick will be teaching science.
Jackie Yates-Leach (Middle Level Social Studies) – Mrs. Yates-Leach is a resident of Dillon. She graduated from Dillon High School. She attended St. Augustine’s University, North Carolina State University, and Strayer University. Mrs. Yates-Leach holds a Masters Degree in Leadership/Management. She brings 17 years of teaching experience from both North and South Carolina.
Galvin Floyd (ELA) – Mr. Floyd is a retired educator from North Carolina. He brings over 32 years of teaching experience. He graduated from Barber Scotia College in Concord, N.C., with a degree in Elementary Education and minored in Social Studies. He received his Masters Degree in Counseling from North Carolina Central University.
Chessie Miller (Special Ed/Resource) – Ms. Miller is a resident of Lake View. She is a graduate of Lake View High School. She attended Francis Marion University where she was a member of the Patriots softball team. She obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in History. Chessie is currently going through Project Create Program. She is an assistant coach for the Dillon High School Ladycats softball team.

Dillon High School
Shacara Hanna (ELA) – Ms. Hanna is a Lake City native. She is a 2017 graduate of Francis Marion University. She has a Bachelors Degree in English. She did her student teaching at Lake City High School.
Libardo Hernandez (Spanish) – Mr. Hernandez is a foreign exchange teacher from Colombia. He received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Pamplona. He also holds a Masters in English. Mr. Hernandez has over 12 years of teaching experience.
Cheyenne Hooks (Social Studies) – Mr. Hooks is a resident of Nichols. He is an Aynor High School graduate. He attended Coastal Carolina University where he obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree. He also received his Masters in Secondary Education. Mr. Hooks completed his student teaching at Aynor High School.
Col. Timothy Houser (JROTC) – Col. Houser recently relocated to South Carolina from Newton, N.C. He attended Pfeiffer University, United States Army War College, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He holds a Masters Degree. Col. House taught American History at Bunker Hill High School.
Patrice Lindsay (Spanish) – Ms. Lindsay is a foreign exchange teacher from Jamaica. She comes to us from Summerville, S.C. She received a Bachelors of Arts specializing in Spanish and French from the University of the West Indies. She has 12 years of teaching experience.
Bernethio Livingston (Resource/Special Education) – Mrs. Livingston is a resident of Lake City. She comes to us from Hannah Pamplico High School. She received a Bachelors Degree of Home Economics/Special Education from South Carolina State University. She went to obtain a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation from S.C. State. She holds other certifications as well, such as Interrelated Special Education and Generic Special Education.
Marshall McDonald (Social Studies) – Coach McDonald is a resident of Lumberton. He is bringing over 30 years of teaching experience with him. He has taught Social Studies and Driver’s Education. He has over 20 years of experience coaching baseball and has won numerous titles while doing so.
Nchinda Neng (Biology) – Ms. Neng is a foreign exchange teacher from Cameroon. She received Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Buea. She has taught at Government High School in Bali for four years.
Shelton Simmons (Science) – Mr. Simmons resides in Hartsville. He is a former teacher of Hartsville High School. There he taught Physical Science, Biology 2, and Chemistry. He received a Bachelors Degree in Physics from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. He received his Masters Degree in Physics from Clemson University in 2010.
Shinneker Swaby-Douglas (ELA) – Mrs. Swaby-Douglas is a foreign exchange teacher from Jamaica. She received a Bachelors of Arts in English from Northern Caribbean University. She brings eight years of teaching experience from Jamaica.
Ezra Thuita (Math) – Mr. Thuita is a foreign exchange teacher from Nairobi, Kenya. Mr. Thuita holds a degree in Mathematics and Geography that he obtained from Moi University. He also received a Masters Degree from Kampala International University in Educational Administration and Management. He has 15 years of teaching experience.
Amanda Hastings (Math) – Amanda is a resident of Hope Mills, N.C. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree from Fayetteville State University. She also holds a Masters in Middle Level Math and a Masters in School Administration. She has 19 years of teaching experience.
Karla Silva (Spanish) – Mrs. Silva is a FACES foreign exchange teacher from Venezuela. She has a Bachelors Degree with fifteen years of teaching experience.

Lake View Elementary
Leanna Ward (Early Childhood) – Mrs. Ward is a resident of Mullins. She is a former third grade teacher at McCormick Elementary School. Mrs. Ward is a 2016 graduate of Francis Marion University where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Lake View High School
William Daniels (Science) – Mr. Daniels is a resident of Mullins. He is a 2017 graduate of Coastal Carolina University where he obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree with a minor in applied math. He recently completed his Masters Degree in Secondary Science through Coastal Carolina. Will completed his student teaching at Aynor High School and Mullins High School.
Kelly Floyd (ELA) – Ms. Floyd is a resident of Galivants Ferry. She comes to us from Richland County School District One. She graduated from Francis Marion University in 1994 with a degree in English. Ms. Floyd holds a Masters Degree in Secondary Education that she obtained from Grand Canyon University in 2009. She has 22 years of teaching experience.
Brittany Huggins (Middle Level Social Studies) – Mrs. Huggins is a resident of Dillon. She comes to us from Darlington. She graduated from Francis Marion University in 2013 with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and minored in Political Science. Mrs. Huggins is currently in the PACE program.
Kayla Sanderson (Middle Level Math) – Miss Sanderson is a graduate of Lake View High School. She attended Claflin University in Orangeburg where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Middle Level Education. She was also a member of Claflin Softball team.
Julie Hatcher (Career Specialist) – Mrs. Hatcher is a resident of Lake View. She attended Clemson University and received a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture degree. She has over 16 years of teaching experience that she brings to Lake View from Dillon Christian School. She has been employed with Dillon School District Four as an assistant at Lake View High School for two years.

District
Heather Causey (Intern School Psychologist) – Mrs. Causey is a resident of Lake View. She received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston in 2001. She obtained a Masters in School Psychology at Francis Marion University.

East Elementary
Jasmine Hamilton (Early Childhood) – Ms. Hamilton is a 2016 graduate of Francis Marion University. She received a degree in Early Childhood Education. After completing her student teaching in December 2016, Jasmine became a full time teacher at East Elementary in January 2017.
Christie Hooks (Early Childhood) – Ms. Hooks is a former graduate of Dillon High School. She attended Horry Georgetown Technical College and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science. She also attended Coastal Carolina University where she received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. Christie did her student teaching at Green Sea Floyds Elementary. Christie joined East Elementary in January as a full time teacher.

South
Beth Bethea Daniels (Elementary) – Mrs. Daniels is a resident of Dillon. She comes to us from North Mullins Primary School where she taught first and second grade. Beth graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelors of Arts Degree. She also obtained her Masters of Science from Walden University. Beth has 28 years of teaching experience.
Jennifer Dudney (Elementary) – Jennifer is a resident of Dillon and graduate of Dillon High School She obtained a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University in 2016. She did her student teaching at South.

Stewart Heights Elementary
Naomi Harris (Elementary) – Mrs. Harris is a resident of Dillon. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree from Grand Canyon University. She is a former Assistant at Dillon Middle School. She will be teaching third grade.
Virgenia Houston (Media Specialist) – Mrs. Houston is a resident of Bennettsville. She comes to us from the Chesterfield County School District. She is certified in Instructional Support Personnel. She received a Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 2007.

Gordon
Eloise Cantey (Elementary) – Mrs. Cantey is a resident of Latta. She comes to us from Marion Intermediate School. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She also holds a Masters Degree in Instructional Accommodation and has a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership. She studied at Francis Marion University and Jones International University. Mrs. Cantey will be teaching fourth grade.
Meredith Coleman (Elementary) – Mrs. Coleman is a resident of Dillon. She obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree from Coker College. She holds a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. She has nine years of teaching experience. She was previously employed as a Master teacher at Bennettsville Intermediate School. Mrs. Coleman has taught with us before and we are so happy to have her back home with us at Dillon School District Four.
