Latta Junior American Legion Loses Heartbreaker To Pamplico

On Wednesday, June 21, the Latta Junior American Legion baseball team lost a heartbreaker 7-6 in 8 innings to Pamplico in Pamplico.
A sac fly by Pamplico’s Josh Rodgers scored the winning run by McKinnley Turner from third base in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Pamplico took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Latta managed to get a run across home in the top of the third inning to cut Pamplico’s lead to 2. Pamplico added another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Latta scored 4 runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up by 1. However, Pamplico also put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 5. Latta added a run in the top of the sixth to claim a 1-run lead only to have Pamplico tie the game at 6 in the bottom of the seventh inning to force an extra inning of which Pamplico managed to score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to claim the victory.
Latta managed 10 hits in the game while Pamplico pounded 17 hits.
Latta was guilty of 2 errors, and Pamplico committed 3 errors.
Latta’s Pierce Watson connected for 3 hits including a double and a rbi in 5 at-bats while McLeod Carmichael garnered 2 hits including a double and a rbi in 3 at-bats.
Pamplico’s Talbert Poston connected for 3 hits including a double, and Mason Hicks garnered 3 hits including 2 doubles and a rbi. McKinley Turner connected for 3 hits including a double in his 4 at-bats. Jackson Turner picked up 2 hits in 5 at-bats, and Garrett Turner garnered a double in 5 at-bats.
McKinley Turner pitched 3 innings and allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run, walked 1, and struck out 5 to pick up the victory. Kody Anderson pitched 3 and 1/3 innings and was tagged for the loss. He allowed 8 hits, 2 runs of which 1 was earned, walked 1, and struck out 5.
Latta hosted Dillon on Friday, June 23.
