Thomas Gayle Myers

Thomas Gayle Myers passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC.
Born January 27, 1939, in Dillon, S.C., he was the son of the late John Thomas Myers and Emma Lou Myers. Mr. Myers was active in the athletic programs of football and basketball in the Dillon schools. In 1957 he was awarded the King Teen and Most Popular awards from his classmates. Mr. Myers entered Wofford College, Spartanburg, S.C., in the fall of 1958. While at Wofford, he was an active participant in the Christian Outreach program and a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Upon graduation from Wofford College with a BS in Business Administration, Mr. Myers enlisted with the United States Army where he served his tour of duty at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., and was a former member of the Army National Guard. Mr. Myers was employed by Belk Department Store as a regional buyer for ladies apparel and originally lived in Gadsden, Alabama, and eventually relocated to Spartanburg. In 1984 Mr. Myers purchased Ellis Clothes of Distinction which operated until 1995. In 1993 Ellis received the distinction of being the first retail business to win the Roger Milligan Retail Made In America Award. Prior to retirement, Mr. Myers was employed by Herald Office Solutions as a sales representative. Mr. Myers was an active member and served on the Board of Deacons and former Director of Sunday School Classes at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, S.C. He was a long-time member of the Spartanburg Rotary Club. Mr. Myers was a member of the Spartanburg Country Club and an avid golfer with numerous friends. His love of God was a blessing every day.
Mr. Myers is survived by his wife, Freda Mills Myers; a son, Michael Thomas Myers, of Las Vegas, NV.; a daughter, Jennifer Leigh Myers, of Spartanburg, S.C.; their mother Georgianna Hayes Ballenger (Harold Lee Ballenger) of Spartanburg, SC.; his sister, Nancy Carleene Myers Jordan (Arthur Buist Jordan, III) of Dillon; his brother-in-law, Randolph Vernon Hayes, of Anderson, S.C., and numerous step-daughters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to his childhood church, First Baptist Church of Dillon, 400 North Fourth Avenue, Dillon, S.C. 29536. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 p.m. and Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Westminister Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, S.C, conducted by the Rev. Dale Rawlings. Burial will be in Dillon, S.C. Date to be announced.
